Why learn to Sing?
It is increasingly becoming understood through research and study that, no matter whether on the stage or simply in the shower, the act of singing can benefit the performer in a wide range of ways.
From a physical point of view it can help strengthen the lungs, diaphragm and muscles that lie between the ribs. It can also benefit the aerobic capacity of the singer, helping both heart and general circulation of the body. Certain studies have shown that sleep can improve, the immune system can be given a boost, and people who engage regularly in singing can become more mentally alert. It can help reduce anger, depression and anxiety. There is also an increasing body of research that shows music helping people to regain balance and posture, particularly if affected by illnesses such as Parkinson's disease.
The emotional well-being of the singer can also be greatly affected, not only bringing an increase in self-esteem and confidence, enhancing mood, or generally instilling a positive feeling, but also acting as a stress reducer and energiser. Particularly when involved in a group singing, or any activity involving music, can promote a strong sense of bonding, and increase understanding and empathy between cultures. Last but by no means least it can be healing. Contact Nicola today to find out how she can help!
